Car parking

Our biggest headache this year has been locating sufficient car parking space to allow the race to go ahead, but we have been able to make alternative arrangements for the popular Park'N'Ride which helps cut down the congestion in our small village enormously. Please use it, arrive in plenty of time, be patient and park responsibly under the direction of the volunteer marshals and police.

Three car parking areas are available and parking is not permitted anywhere else.  In order of preference:

P1 - Helsby high school

Preferred option. Park'N'Ride operates from here. The drop off will be on the old railway bridge by Crossland Terrance, from there it is a short stroll along the main road to the race start at Helsby Community Sports Club. Baggage drop will be available at the club for the duration of the race. Post code for the school for sat nav is WA6 0HY

P2 - Helsby community sports club

This is the race HQ and race start. Parking is limited and will fill very quickly. Once all the space is full you will be directed to the other areas. Post code for sat nav is WA6 0DL

P3 - Mere's edge estate

Distributed parking is available on some of the service roads within the estate which is close to the Helsby Community Sports Club. Marshals will guide you to the correct parking areas. Please do NOT park in the housing estates or in Tesco's car park. Industrial units within the estate will be working on Sunday, so we have to leave access on the roads we are using for them.

Directions from the East

We recommend all runners coming from the Warrington / Runcorn direction leave the M56 at Junction 12 and follow the signs to Frodsham. Once in Frodsham and at the lights outside the Bear's Paw pub, carry straight on the A56 towards Helsby. The Park'N'Ride at Helsby High School is on the right shortly after the 40MPH zone starts.

Directions from the West

For runners coming from Wales / Chester, leave the M56 at Junction 14 and turn right, along the 5117 towards Helsby. The Helsby Community Sports Club is on the left hand side just after the garage. Please note that when the parking at the club and Mere's Edge (just beyond the club) is full - which will happen early on race day - you will be directed to continue through the village to the Park'N'Ride facilities at Helsby High School.

DOs and DON'Ts

DO allow plenty of time. Far better to be early and have time to relax and meet up with friends before the race, rather than be held up and miss the start of the race.

Start line

We have moved the start line to in front of the club. This means there's a slight course alteration in the first couple of miles to make the distance back up to 13.1miles. The eagle eyed will have spotted the change in the schematic map on the back of the information booklet. Do start lining up at the start in good time and form an orderly queue around the side of the club past the club burger bar. You can join the start line by going round the back of the club. Remember that you need to cross the black start mat under the Asics arch at the start for your time to be recorded.
